Before practicing law, Cavit had worked as an oceangoing deck officer in, one of the first-class tanker managers in Turkey, whose vessels are chartered and approved by major oil companies.
After having law degree, he worked as a lawyer and admiralty manager in a law firm, located in Istanbul, where he was instructed to provide legal assistance in all aspects of maritime law and insurance law including marine casualties and disputes arising from charter parties and bill of ladings. Also, he is visiting lecturer in Maritime Law course at ITU Maritime Faculty and ITU Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering Faculty.
